About the Opera
Often called “The Queen of Operettas,” this is certainly the most celebrated and successful show of its kind ever written. Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow receives an updated approach by Artistic Director and Resident Composer of Opera Tampa, Maestro Anton Coppola. This new adaptation still focuses on the rich and newly widowed Hanna Glawari and Barron Zeta’s hope that he can keep Hanna (and her millions) in his bankrupt country.

The Merry Widow marks the return of Rochelle Bard (La Rondine) and features an international cast, as well as the Opera Tampa New Artists, Orchestra and Chorus.

Characters
Hanna Glawari, a wealthy widow
Count Danilo Danilovitsch, first secretary of the embassy and Hanna’s former lover
Baron Mirko Zeta, the ambassador
Valencienne, Baron Zeta’s wife
Camille, Count de Rosillon

• The 1952 Technicolor version starred Lana Turner and Fernando Lamas.
